Rejoicing Spirits
(www.rejoicingspirits.org)
Rejoicing Spirits, a national outreach ministry dedicated to including individuals with developmental disabilities and their families/caregivers, was founded in October of 2003 in Chester County. The response from the community to the Rejoicing Spirits inclusive, adapted worship and fellowship model was extremely positive, affirming the need to advocate for spiritual inclusion of all people.
Worship services typically include lots of music and joyous singing, along with brief, meaningful messages. Especially important is that it's a shush-free environment. Through a Rejoicing Spirits Ministry, congregations become aware, educated and accepting of individuals with developmental disabilities. Attitudinal barriers are removed allowing us to truly be one body united together in Christ.
The foundation of the ministry is rooted in 1 Corinthians 12:25, "So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other." A priority is to overlook each other's differences and instead value all people as one body. The service is a great example of overcoming prejudice and instead creating unity.
